RightFax Registry Margins: Conversion Fix

When the RightFax Conversion Engine fails to start, one documented cause is bad registry margin values under the RightFax ISO conversion settings. The known issue is a margin value entered with a comma instead of a decimal point. Correcting the registry values and restarting the conversion service resolves the failure.

Indicators
  • RightFax Conversion Engine will not start
  • Registry values appear malformed or use comma-separated decimals
  • The issue appears after a rebuild, patch, or migration
  • Conversion settings were copied from another system
Resolution Steps
01
Back Up the Registry First
Before making any registry change, back up the relevant keys or create a restore point. Incorrect registry edits can affect the Conversion Engine and other RightFax services. Treat this as a controlled change, not an ad hoc tweak.
02
Open the RightFax ISO Conversion Registry Path
Navigate to the RightFax ISO conversion settings under the registry path used by your environment. The documented path for the margin issue is:
  • HKLM\SOFTWARE\Wow6432Node\RightFax\ISOConv\IE\IeConfig
Confirm you are editing the correct key on the server where conversion is failing, not a client workstation.
03
Correct the Margin Values
Review the page margin values in the key and change them to use a decimal point format. The documented fix is to set all page margins to 0.75, not 0,75. If the values are zero, malformed, or otherwise inconsistent, replace them with valid decimal values that match your expected conversion behavior.
04
Restart the Conversion Engine
After updating the registry, restart the RightFax Conversion Engine so it reloads the corrected margin settings. If the service was refusing to start, the corrected values should clear the startup failure.
05
Validate With a Test Conversion
Run a test fax or conversion job and confirm the output renders with the expected margins. If the job still fails, recheck the registry path and confirm the values were saved correctly.
Field Note
This issue tends to appear after server rebuilds or environment moves where configuration values were copied from another system. The decimal formatting problem is easy to miss because the values look plausible at a glance. If the Conversion Engine suddenly fails after a migration, registry formatting should be one of the first places to look.
